2020s
The start of the 2020s was unprecedented as a result of the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic and related response. Not unlike other areas around the country, the state of Nevada closed non-essential businesses in March 2020, which resulted in resort closures for 78 days. Upon re-opening, social distancing requirements and other measures limited the industry to reach back to full operations. Ultimately, the industry pressed forward in compliance with state and local regulations. Notable industry investments and project openings helped propel tourism overall. Examples included the opening of Allegiant Stadium, Resorts World Las Vegas and Virgin Hotel Las Vegas.
2020
- The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority (LVCVA) acquired the Las Vegas Monorail.
- Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino offset 25 percent of its energy demand with rooftop solar panels.
- Caesars debuted the William Hill sportsbook.
- Circa opened in Downtown Las Vegas.
- Terrible's Hotel & Casino ceased operations and closed.
- Texas Station in Las Vegas closed.
- Colorado Belle Hotel in Laughlin closed.
- Fiesta Henderson closed.
- Fiesta Rancho in Las Vegas closed.
- Harrah's Reno closed.
- Lakeside Inn in Douglas County closed.
- South Point completed a 3-year, $40 million renovation project.
2021
- Resorts World Las Vegas, the first new Strip hotel-casino built in a decade, opened on the site of the former Stardust Resort & Casino.
- Virgin Hotel Las Vegas opened at the former Hard Rock site.
- Vici Properties reached a deal to acquire MGM Resorts International spinoff MGM Growth Properties.
2022
- Tropicana was sold to Bally's Corp.
- Palms Casino Resort was sold to the San Manuel Band of Mission Indians and reopened.
- Apollo Global Management, Inc. acquired the Venetian Resort and Venetian Expo Operating Companies.
- MGM Grand upgraded 700 rooms in MGM Grand's Studio Tower.
- Caesars Palace 182-room Nobu "hotel within a hotel" was completed.
2023
- The Sphere venue in Las Vegas opened.
- Las Vegas will host a Formula 1 race on November 18, 2023.
- Durango Casino in Las Vegas is set to open November 20, 2023.
- Fontainebleau in Las Vegas is set to open by the end of the year.
